Beyond Print | Smith Gallery At Appalachian State University
September 5- October 8, 2025
Print making is not limited to creating framed prints on paper. Many artists working with print making processes today are creating work that blurs the boundaries between printmaking and other art forms to create hybrid works that incorporate elements of sculpture, painting, installation, textiles, photography, video and digital art. This exhibition presents a small survey of this expanded way of working with print making materials and processes. It highlights experimentation with innovative materials, new technological processes, and new presentation methods, as well as the artists’ conceptual engagement with questions of reproduction, dissemination, and the nature of the multiple. It also explores different facets of personal and cultural history and the relationship of humans to the natural world.
Beyond Print includes work by Mary Claire Becker (Clemson, SC), J. Leigh Garcia (Knoxville, TN), John Hitchcock John Hitchcock (Madison, WI), and Casey Roberts (Indianapolis, IN) .
